How does Underwriting Support make a difference? Underwriting Support consists of two main roles:
- Underwriting assistants support our underwriters in determining the acceptability of insurance risks and the premium those risks require. They conduct research, ensure adequate pricing, manage agency requests and handle most of the administrative tasks required to properly prepare and document files. In addition, they underwrite and process smaller renewal policies.
- Team assistants support underwriting assistants and underwriters with a variety of administrative needs, including rating and typing of insurance policies.
Am I equipped for this role? Underwriting assistants must be detail oriented and have the communications skills to effectively explain and present information to their underwriting teams as well as their independent agency customers. Underwriting assistant careers begin with a blend of formal classroom training and job coaching from experienced insurance professionals. Team assistants must have strong keyboarding, organizational and communications skills. Underwriting support roles are great entry-level roles for new graduates or someone looking to make a career change and also prepare those who seek to advance to an underwriting position.
