How do underwriters make a difference? Underwriters are the risk and relationship managers for our company. Using sophisticated computer software, they analyze a variety of data to determine the acceptability of insurance risks and the premium those risks require. Underwriters manage relationships with our independent agency customers as they work to achieve profitability and growth goals for their territories.
Am I equipped for this role? Underwriters must have negotiation and communication skills and the ability to make decisions accurately and efficiently. This position requires a bachelor’s degree or insurance experience combined with an Associate in General Insurance designation. Underwriting careers begin with a blend of formal classroom training and job coaching from experienced underwriters before being assigned a territory to manage.
